Award-Winning Photographer Neshama Roash
To me, a photograph is not simply a record of the past, but an artistic collaboration between nature and human perspective. My work begins with a single, fleeting moment captured in my camera and ends as a hand-printed, large-format work of art. My editing style is heavily influenced by the time I spent, more than twenty-three years ago, in a black-and-white darkroom. Using traditional dodging and burning techniques, I carefully sculpt light and shadow, manually shaping the contrast within each image. As a technically detail-oriented artist, I then bring the fascinating minutiae of the image into focus through intentional, yet minimal, selective sharpening, transforming small details into what I hope some will experience almost as lyrics to a beautiful love song or a soundtrack for life. If I succeed, I have transformed a single observation into a permanent, shared symbol of what I felt in that moment.Thank you for taking the time to view my work! I’m Neshama Roash, a photographic artist and graduate of the Art Institute of Colorado. I initially built my career in portrait and event photography, managing my studio for over two decades. However, a year and a half after losing my dad unexpectedly, the heart-wrenching loss of my younger brother to pancreatic cancer led to a major shift in my view on life. This change brought a renewed desire to capture the beauty of nature and humanity’s positive influence upon it through my lens. Over the course of a year, I fully transitioned my business from portraiture to nature photography. It has been a challenging, but also healing and exciting, journey.Since the end of 2019, I've showcased my vibrant landscapes and intimate close-ups of nature in juried fine art exhibitions, receiving numerous awards, including "Best in Show" at the 2023 Mosaics Fine Art Festival. My work has been featured in national and international exhibitions such as "Wanderlust" at the Webster Arts Gallery in Saint Louis, Missouri and "Art that Matters to the Planet" at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown, New York. Several pieces have earned merits from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Most notably, my image Grand Haven Calm received PPA’s highest distinction, Imaging Excellence, and was published in the 2025 Imaging Excellence Collection. In January 2026, the image also earned a Bronze Award in PPA’s International Photographic Contest, placing among the top 28 images out of more than 2,200 submissions. My art is also displayed in private homes and professional spaces across the United States.
Through my work, I seek to find and capture the connective essence between nature and the human experience.
I look forward to connecting with you!
Love & gratitude,
